Patti Smith’s “Just Kids” Soon to be TV Series
“The light poured through the windows upon his photographs and the poem of us sitting together a last time. Robert dying: creating silence. Myself, destined to live, listening closely to a silence that would take a lifetime to express.” ― Patti Smith,
Patti Smith’s 2010 National Book Award winning memoir, “Just Kids,” on her relationship with photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, will soon be adapted as a series for the premium network Showtime.
David Nevins, president of Showtime, stated, “Just Kids is one of my favorite memoirs of all time. Not only is it a fascinating portrait of artists coming of age, but it’s also an inspiring story of friendship, love and edurance.”
The series will be co-written by Smith based on adaptation she has been writing since 2011. She stated, “A limited series on Showtime will allow us to explore the characters more deeply, enabling us to develop stories beyond the book and allow a measure of unorthodox presentation.”
Patti Smith will be releasing a follow up to Just Kids, titled “M Train,” on October 6th, 2015.
