UK rap artist Loyle Carner returns with a new single, “Stars & Shrads” following the success of his previous single “Ain’t Nothing Changed.” The new track is expected to be featured in his soon to be released debut album.
The lyricists has been gaining much attention as of late with the rise of a unique young batch of U.K. MCs (Little Simz, Rejjie Snow, Ray Blk, etc) that are stripping the genre of over produce sounds, into something less abrasive and much more minimal and personal. Carner however, stands from the pack as one of the smoothest of them all, with a lyrical fluidity that’s an impressive stream of conscious – a counter example would be America’s Joey Bada$$ – deeply rooted in the similar vein of the NY hip hop scene of twenty years ago. But Carner is not American, he is an unapologetic South Londoner who speaks to a different generation that’s willing to respect the old while changing things up according to, well, however they want to.
